Technical University of Moldova is the only higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova offering engineering and technological programmes. The university was set up in 1964. It is subordinated to the Ministry of Education. It has been accredited by the Ministry of Education.
The Technical University of Moldova comprises 10 faculties and one technical college, 50 departments, etc. The teaching staff includes about 840 professors, and about 19000 students are enrolled at present. Since 2005 the educational process is structured in three cycles according to the Bologna Process Bachelor, Master and Doctoral studies.
Researchers of TUM have been awarded the Republic of Moldova State Prize in Science and Technological fields. The university has participated in many international Exhibitions and Fairs, being appreciated with gold, silver and bronze medals and over 50 special awards and diplomas.
TUM participated in 16 Tempus/Tacis projects in university management, updating the curriculum, master studies included, creation of institutional structures, endowed with computers and modern equipment, individual mobility of the academic staff and partly of the master students. In some of these projects, TUM has been the co-ordinating institution. TUM benefited of 52 grants funded by INTAS programme, INCO-COPERNICUS, SCOPES, CRDF USA, Moldovan Research and Development Association, NATO Scientific Division, etc.
TUM participated in EU Tempus programme, FP7, in projects financed by CRDF and SCOPES, etc. either as the project leader or partner and gained extensive project experience. During last years TUM participated in the following EU projects:
1. 510952-2010-SE-JPCR Creation of third cycle studies – Doctoral Programme in Renewable Energy and Environment
2. 511322-2010-1-SE-JPCR Geographic information technology for sustainable development in Eastern neighbouring countries
3. JEP-26091-2005: Implementation of a National Management System for Quality Assurance in Moldovan Higher Education
4. SCM-T002A06-2006: Education in Research Doctorate: Doctoral School
5. 144544-TEMPUS-1-2008-1-FR-TEMPUS-JPHES. Development of partnerships with Moldovan Enterprises
6. JEP-24182-2003: Master Programme in Environment and Clean Technologies, etc.
TUM will take up the role of project partner and will thereby fully ensure the implementation of the joint Action's activities under their responsibility according to the plan of the joint Action and the contract signed with the Beneficiary; will cooperate with the Beneficiary and the partners in the implementation of the joint Actions, etc.
