Piri Reis Maritime University model is very unique throughout the world in the sense that she is found by the support and sponsorship of the whole maritime sector, namely Turkish Chamber of Shipping (TCS) through Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV). Among the 7500 members of the TCS are ship-owners, ship operators, shipping agents, brokers, ship/yacht builders and shipyard, classification societies, insurance companies, sand extractors, fishermen, and maritime training companies. They all contribute to the annual budget of Piri Reis Maritime University by Law which is unique in MET world.
The Piri Reis Maritime University is designed to serve as the MET Centre of Turkey with excellent campuses, State of the Art facilities and Training Equipment to serve not only for herself, but also to the other MET institutions in the area with the intention of contributing effectively to the shortage of seafaring officers in Turkey, and throughout the world sharing all her MET capacity. PRU was founded as the continuation of the former Institute of Maritime Studies under TUDEV (Turkish Maritime Education Foundation). TUDEV took part in several major EU LdV Projects either as the project leader or partner and gained extensive project experience. This experience has been transferred to the new established university through staff transfers.
PRU will be involved at all stages in preparing the proposed joint action plan in coordination with partners.
PRU will take up the role of project partner and will thereby fully support the project to complete certain deliverables in the work packages. PRU is front runner in designing and delivering tailor-made programmes for the major players in the shipping industry. In this capacity, PRU will assist in the envisaged project to design and develop necessary tools to promote maritime culture, common traditions and perspectives in the Black Sea region.
